When I travelled to Europe, packing for a month away at home was quite a challenge. With airlines charging extra for everything and a husband who hates to wait for luggage at airports, I have learned to travel very lightly. So light that everything has to fit into one rollaway! However, I like to dress for different occasions and being stylish when you can't pack a lot is not easy. That's why I thought Style Lend might be on to something. Style Lend is a peer-to-peer fashion rental marketplace. Think Air B&B - but for your closet! You can rent & lend designer pieces from stylish girls in your city. So when you book a seat at a 5 star Michelin rated restaurant, you don't have to show up in Spandex black, but might be able to find something much more stylish to rent for the one night out.
Style Lend was created in San Francisco by Lona Duncan. The idea for Style Lend came to her while she was traveling the world. She thought it would be amazing if she could travel with less and experience the culture through fashion. She came back to the US pitched the idea and won multiple competitions & was accepted to the prestigious YCombinator - where companies like Air B&B, Dropbox & Reddit came out of. Now in San Francisco and expanding to New York Summer 2015 & Los Angeles Fall 2015 StyleLend allows women to access their dream closets one city at a time by using an app they can download to their phone!
When you create an account on the Style Lend App you get access to high-end closets, where you can borrow designer items and lend your own pieces for cash. A tap on a button and you can save your favorites to access them at a later date. As more fashionistas join the site, you will be able to browse available designer brands in your neighborhood and connect with other Style Lend customers to share items with. I was wondering exactly how one is guaranteed that the items available for rent are in good condition and have been dry cleaned. So I check out the site's very detailed Terms page . I came away with a sense that it is more in the interest of those renting out their closest to make sure that everything is in order. After all renters can make money and as with everything today, a bad review only hurts future business.
The App is very easy to navigate and browsing through designer clothing, shoes and accessories is kind of fun. Through quick messaging communication between parties is fast and efficient. You can also filter by category, color and size within the neighborhoods you frequent most often. See more photos of the outfit, read a more detailed description and ask the renter any questions you might have. Then just select the week of your rental and the item will be shipped or made available for pick up.
Style Lend is a community of fashion-conscious, people who share a love for looking stylish. In my opinion this concept makes a lot of sense for young professionals, who need to dress sharp yet don't want to spend all their money on clothes. See what these ladies had to say ....
