I always enjoy finding the places I see in paintings and see how they compare to what one might see today. El Golea is an exotic oasis town located in central Algeria and is the southern gateway to the Sahara Desert. Some call it the little Paradise because in the midst of this seemingly desolated area palm trees and desert roses grow. In the 10th century, Berber tribes called this place home and this image is a depiction of what the artist most likely saw during his visit to this region.
