As I continue to paint one of the Jaguar cubs, I also spend some time getting to know these majestic wild cats. The third largest feline after the tiger and lion this feline is one of the largest found in the Western Hemisphere. This beautiful cat roams in regions ranging from the Southern United States and Mexico ann the way down to Central America.

Jaguar cubs are always a welcoming sight for Zoo visitors and watching them mature from little baby cubs to their full potential which can be anywhere from 70 to 250 pounds is just amazing. Jaguars are listed on the IUCN Red List as "near threatened" species, therefore the birth of Tikal and Maderas on April 26th, 2012 at the San Diego Zoo is even more special. I will write more about these lovely cats, but for now it's back to the easel to work on one of the siblings
