Child Portrait in Progress 596

child portrait in progress 596 This child portrait has been created from a photographic reference that is extremely bad. The original photo is so dark that I had serious doubts if I was ever able to create a decent likeness from. The first objective was to recreate the face structure in flesh tones that are believable. Since there is no way for me to tell what is going on the in the dark areas of the photos, artistic license had to be applied. By playing up these dark areas with interesting textures and framing them around the face the face tends to come out more. I still have a lot to do with this painting, but for now it's time to get some feedback from the client.

You are doing an amazing job so far, considering the photo that you reference to. The hair is extremely short and is barely showing from the hat. Bring the background shade over the cheek, accentuate the lips, eyes and nose. I know the hat has a lot of folded lace, but if that was just soft folds with the bow, I think it will be incredible when your finished. Looking forward to seeing it again as you progress. :)

Out of all of the artists that I’ve seen with portraits, your talent stands out the most.

Blessings!
