Pros of Deadheading Plants

backyard pros snippers

Backyard Garden Pros is sponsoring today’s post, but as always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. Thanks for continuing to support brands that support me!

I’ve been noticing signs of the shifting seasons for weeks now around the garden, but have been half pretending that summer is going to continue on forever. My to-do list is a mile long and unfortunately, things are not getting done a fast as I like them to. However one of the things I never fail to do is pruning. In flower beds that are full having comfortable tip snips makes the work of deadheading fast and easy.

Why you should deadhead

As plants fade out of bloom, pinch or cut off the flower stem below the spent flower and just above the first set of full, healthy leaves. Repeat with all the dead flowers on the plant. Sometimes it may be easier to deadhead plants by shearing them back entirely. If I spot a spent flower I might use my fingers, but for larger jobs, I like to use Micro Tip Snips.

What to Look for in Micro Tip Snips

When looking for microtip snips you should look for some that are spring loaded so that they automatically open and close without to much work on your behalf. This greatly reduces hand fatigue and if you are suffering from arthritis, carpal tunnel or hand and wrist issues, you will welcome micro tips with comfortable handles.
