This new 8x10In custom child portrait is of a young boy. I zoomed in to show the development of the painting, therefore it is showing for now as a square. I just adore that cute little smile and spend a good portion of my time getting the underpainting down. The child is wearing glasses, something that can get pretty tricky at times. To start I painted the head without the glasses just to get the shape in place, that I put in the glasses. After placing some color in, it is time to focus on the face again and add the flesh tones.
I added more color and will be smoothing everything out shortly. The painting will soon leave the ugly duckling stage and start to come together. I plan to do a lot of work on this portrait this weekend to bring it closer to a more cohesive look.
I spend an insane of hours working on this little portrait and just love how it has turned out. The painting has finally moved from a flat stage to one of depth. I added a lot of subtle highlights and think that it made a world of difference. The backdrop of foliage has also undergone another revision and has more texture than before. At this stage, I do not know what else to do, so it is time to get some feedback from my client. If all is well, this painting can be prepped for shipping as well as soon as the paint is dry.
