Decorating with Bicycles

Old-Fashioned Bicycle Plant Stand

Have you ever wondered what to do with your old bicycle or perhaps how to create a focal point for your garden using a bike? Vintage bicycles especially have a lot of charm and can be transformed into great plant holders.

When I visited Balboa Island I saw this red bicycle that had a basket in the front. I totally fell in love with the look and made a mental note to go searching for one. Well, one thing led to another and I found so many cute ideas I just had to share.

These bunnies riding a bicycle has to be my favorite. The statues can be staked so the bike stands securely on the ground. Another great one is the bike made out of twigs. I don't know how well this would hold up outdoors, but I can see it work on a porch or other covered outdoor area.

Play around with scale. Bikes can come in all sizes and shapes and if you do not have enough room for a full-size bike you might be able to use a decorative small bike to hold a flower pot. It's a great way to add a splash of color!

Of course, decorating with bicycles can be done indoors as well. This is a great use of an interesting console table in a narrow hallway. Rather than adding yet another rectangular looking case or board, this stand looks airy and interesting. Yet there is plenty of room to add decorative things on the top as well.

Some people use just parts of a bicycle and I think that works really well too. These adjustable bar stools look really interesting and are a departure from the usual boring looking bar stools that are commonly available for purchase.
I found this great video on how you can convert any old bicycle into a flower stand!

Here is another fun DIY project that looks pretty simple to do using just a bike wheel.

I love to hear how you have decorated with a bicycle. Either leave me a comment below or tag me on Instagram using @portraits_by_nc
