Allium versus Elephant Garlic

 Purple Allium

The pretty purple flowering balls of Alliums are not only enjoyed by many insects, but are edible by humans as well. Sprinkled over salad, cheese or even soups, the petals have a garlicky aroma and add a splash of unexpected color. Want the the look of Alliums for less? Consider Planting Elephant Garlic.

Watch as Better Homes and Gardens shows you tips for gardening with alliums! These flowering beauties are one of the most underutilized and unknown bulb flowers. Like most bulbs, alliums are planted in the fall. However, unlike tulips or daisies, these garden flowers won't bloom until early summer, as opposed to in the spring.

Alliums make for an eye catching display in the garden, however the bulbs have to be planted in late fall in order for the flowers to come up in late Spring.

Botanus Garden Club Episode 27 - Awesome Alliums This week Wendy & Elke discuss the many advantages of planting Alliums in the garden. Alliums are Botanus' #1 best selling unusual flower bulb. They come in all sorts of sizes, colours and shapes and if you haven't grown any before, now's the time!

Since Alliums can be pretty expensive to buy a cheaper way to get the same show stopping look on a budget is to plant Elephant Garlic instead.  Just like alliums, bees are attracted to them and they are edible as well.

Welcome to the third in a 7-part series about different products provided by elephant garlic. This video focuses on elephant garlic flowers. After this video, I hope that you will consider elephant garlic as an inexpensive way to have a dramatic impact in your flower gardens.
